The OCRopodium Project: Evaluating open-source tools for historical OCR

The OCRopodium project aimed to evaluate the potential of open-source tools to provide customisable and cost-effective OCR solutions for digital libraries and archives. This paper will provide an overview of the project outcomes, introduce the demonstrator software developed to test and run OCR workflows, and discuss the lessons learned during our test-case evaluation.

About the speaker

Mike is Research Associate in the Centre for e-Research, his research interests include information extraction; web technologies; image processing and user interface design. Mike worked for several years in the Visual Effects industry prior to joining King's.
