International Scientific Seminars

The International Scientific Seminars scheme is for Royal Society Research Fellows who want to organise a small two-day scientific seminar at the Kavli Royal Society International Centre.

The scheme provides funding for international airfares, UK travel costs, accommodation at the centre, hire of the meeting rooms and all meals at the Kavli Royal Society International Centre. The scientific meeting may be specific to a particular field of science or cross disciplinary in nature. The scheme covers all areas of the life and physical sciences, including engineering, but excluding clinical medicine.

The applicant must currently be in receipt of one of the following Royal Society Research Fellowships:

  • University Research Fellowship (Year 2 onwards)
  • Dorothy Hodgkin Fellowship (Year 2 onwards)
  • Industry Fellowship
  • Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award
  • Royal Society Research Professorship

The scheme provides funding for international airfares, UK travel costs, accommodation at the centre, hire of the meeting rooms and all meals at the centre for up to 20 participants. The maximum amount that may be requested for travel is £5,000. The award holders are responsible for all aspects of organising and delivering the scientific content of the meetings.

The deadline for applications is anticipated to be in July 2012 (tbc). Applications must be submitted via e-GAP.


India-UK Scientific Seminars

The India-UK Scientific Seminars scheme is for mid-career scientists who want to organise a small three-day scientific seminar between groups of scientists from India and the UK. The meeting may take place in either the UK or India and may have up to 20 attendees (5 from the visiting country and up to 15 from the host country). The scheme is intended to encourage scientific discussion and to promote collaboration and knowledge transfer by encouraging interaction within the wide research community.

The scheme covers all areas of the life and physical sciences, including engineering, but excluding clinical medicine. The applicant must have a PhD or equivalent research experience and hold a fixed term contract or permanent position at an eligible institution.

The scheme provides funding to cover the cost of travel, accommodation for all external attendees, hire of meeting rooms and audio visual equipment and all meals whilst the meeting is taking place (breakfast, lunch and evening dinner).The meeting should not last longer than 3 days and the total value of the grant cannot exceed £12,000.

This scheme is currently closed to applications. The most recent closing date was 25th October 2010.
