Timeline

At least six weeks prior to the submission date

  • You have by now drafted a project plan and proposal, and established what resources you’re likely to need to undertake the project. Check out our Budget and costs section for a deeper insight, and to put you in a position to request staff costs from the appropriate member of the pre-award team.

The pre-award team use a costing tool called RACE to generate precise costs based on the anticipated start date of the project, and the funding rules of the sponsor that you’re applying to. Different sponsors have different rules about which costs are eligible and what rate of overhead (if any) can be applied, so it is important to contact the pre-award team each and every time you make a new application.

  •  We can help with non-staff costs, or liaise with the pre-award team for you and provide the complete budget. Please note that the EU Office will deal with budgets for all European funding opportunities. Keep us in the loop!
  • If the sponsor uses an electronic submission system, make sure you’re registered for this, and liaise with the Arts and Sciences Research Office  about any parts of the application form that are unclear.
