How do I apply?
Application to study abroad in 2012/13 is now closed. If we have space at any partner institutions, we will endeavour to open applications again in March 2012 to those students who can study in the second semester of the academic year.Stage 1 - Research
Application Stages
There are four main stages involved in applying:
1. Research
2. King's Application
3. Partner Application
4. Finalising your study abroad
You can use the King's partner webpages, as well as the individual partner institution webpages, to research the possibilities open to you as a current King's College London student. You may also want to meet with your Study Abroad Tutor who can advise on specific, available destinations.
The Study Abroad Office organises the now annual Go Global week and Study Abroad Fair and holds a number of preparatory briefings, in October and November, to further help you make up your mind.
Once you have decided where you would like to apply to, you can complete the King's Application by the deadline of Monday 12th December 2011.

Stage 2 - King's Application
King's students wishing to apply must complete the King's application form via the Online Prospectus and submit it along with the following supporting documentation by Monday 12th December 2011.
- A personal statement (more about below)
- One academic reference (the online application will send an automatic reference request to the academic named on the form)
- For 1st year students, A-level transcripts (or equivalent)*
- For 2nd/3rd year students, a record of results (available on request from the Compass)
Stage 3 - Partner Application
Between January and March, the Study Abroad Office will notify succesful students and direct them to the relevant partner university application, which will then need to be completed and submitted to the partner university.
Stage 4 - Finalising your study abroad
On acceptance by the partner university, students will then attend a pre-departure briefing by the Study Abroad Office, before completing their year at King's and finalising the details of their study abroad placement.
Personal Statement
Your personal statement, which should be approxmately 500 words, is your chance to distinguish yourself from a pool of well-qualified candidates. It is important to focus specifically on your academic reasons and motivation for selecting the particular partner institution in question, and you should address the following questions:
- Why do you want to study abroad?
- Why are you interested in this particular institution and country?
- Why do you feel you are qualified to participate in an exchange programme and what do you want to achieve during your experience abroad?
- How will a year/semester abroad contribute to your academic goals, future career and personal objectives?
