Dates and deadlines

dates Dates and deadlines vary year to year, especially for our partner universities. Whilst the Study Abroad Office runs daily, dedicated Study Abroad drop-in sessions in the Compass (Monday-Friday, 11am-12noon), the below calendar is aimed at giving staff and students an idea of the expected order of events.
September - Freshers' Fair / Welcome Fair
The Study Abroad Office will hold an annual stall at the Freshers' Fair, also known as Welcome Fair. This is an early opportunity for new 1st Year students to enquire about the possibilities open to them.

October-November - Study Abroad Briefings and promotion
The Study Abroad Office will hold a number of
preparatory briefings for those interested in studying abroad. Come along to hear about where you can go, when you can go, how to apply, costs, funding opportunities and a lot more. Staff, particularly Study Abroad Tutors, are also very welcome. Some departments will also organise their own, departmental-specific briefings in this period.

November - Go Global & the Study Abroad Fair
The Study Abroad Fair for 2011 will be held in the Great Hall, Strand Campus on November 1st. It is a chance to meet both with staff and students from the various partner institutions as well as King's students who have returned from studying abroad in the previous year. As one of the main events of the now annual international week - Go Global - it is just one of many ways for students to find out the possibilities open to them.

December - King's Application Deadline
The King's application to study abroad will be available from late October until Monday 12th December. This application includes one reference from an academic member of staff at King's, so students should make their chosen referee aware sooner rather than later.

January-March - Provisional Allocations
Students who have been succesful in their King's application will be informed about where they will be nominated to go on exchange in the order of partner university deadlines (see the partner application deadlines below). Study Abroad Tutors and departmental administrators are also informed.

February-July - Partner Applications
Students allocated to study abroad in either the first semester of full year of the next academic year will apply directly to the various partner institutions with support and guidance from the Study Abroad Office. Approximate deadlines for those institutions can be found towards the bottom of this page.

February - Summer Programmes Application
King's has a growing number of summer programmes available. The application for these will be launched annually in February.

March - King's Funding Deadline
There are several funding opportunities open to students, some of which are outlined on the Funding page. The deadlines for the Arts & Sciences Fund and the Santander Study Abroad Award are in early March.

April - Pre-departure Briefing
After the Easter break, and at the start of the Exams term at King's, the Study Abroad Office will hold one of its bi-annual pre-departure briefings for those students due to study abroad in the following year. The briefing will cover a large range of issues, from assessment to grants to study plans to what to do in an emergency. It will be accompanied by a detailed handout, and will provide another opportunity to ask questions.

June - End of year results
For those students for whom studying abroad is optional and non-compulsory, end of year results are released and publicised in June. Students who have not attained the 60% minimum will unfortunately not be able to take up their place abroad and will be informed as necessary.

September - Learning Agreements
The Learning Agreement will be requested by the Study Abroad Office from all students abroad. This document must be approved by the relevant Study Abroad Tutor via the dedicated Blackboard pages.

October - Erasmus Mobility Grant
The Study Abroad Office will submit details for all known, eligible outgoing Erasmus students to receive the Erasmus grant. Students can expect to hear from the King's Student Funding Office, about receiving the grant, in November.

November - Second semester pre-departure briefing
For those students going abroad in just the second semester of the current academic year, another pre-departure briefing will be held with information similar to that provided in the April briefing.

***
For those students in the Modern Language departments applying for the English Language Assistantship, a separate calendar is available on the ELA pages.
