Each semester five King’s Study Abroad Excellence Awards will be available to our most distinguished Study Abroad students in the arts, humanities and social sciences. Each Excellence Award is worth £2,500 for students studying one semester, or £3,500 for students studying for the whole academic year. The awards will be made to candidates of outstanding quality, who can best demonstrate how their time at King’s builds on their academic record, and how it will help fulfill their personal and academic ambitions.Conditions
Students must have been accepted to Study Abroad at King’s for at least one semester and have applied for courses equivalent to at least three quarters of their total credit value in the Schools of Humanities and/or Social Sciences and Public Policy. If it is not possible for the College to accommodate the students’ first choice of courses, the initial choice made will still validate the eligibility of students to apply.
Criteria for selection
Students will be selected on the basis of their overall academic performance to date and their performance in the subjects relevant to their application (up to four subjects can be selected by the student on the application form). Equally important however is the students’ case for receiving an award; each applicant must submit a personal statement, in which they reflect on how their study at King’s relates to their personal and academic development to date, and how they will be able to benefit from it in the future.
It is important to note the awards are not made purely on the basis of high academic grades or GPA; the awards panel gives equal weighting to the personal statement.

Application procedure
- Students that wish to apply for the Excellence Awards must have submitted an application for the King’s Study Abroad programme. You do not have to have received an offer of admission before you apply but obviously awards will only be made to students that have received an offer of admission.
- Please complete the Excellence Awards coversheet (attached at the bottom of the page). This can either be submitted at the time of application or later in the cycle. Please note however that applications for the Excellence Awards must have been received by the College deadline for Study Abroad: 31 May for Fall/full year and 1 November for Spring.
- Applications can be sent by post to the Study Abroad Office or emailed directly to studyabroad@kcl.ac.uk. If sent by post, applications must be postmarked before the deadline. Applications sent by email will be accepted on the day of the deadline.
- Successful applicants will receive notification of their award within three weeks of the deadline.
