Biography
Dr Bob Patton is a Research Fellow in Addiction at the Institute of Psychiatry, currently employed as research coordinator (South) for the SIPs Jr Alcohol Research Program, on which he is also Principal Investigator with responsibility for Patient & Public involvement.. He has run a research consultancy since 1993.
During the 1990s he worked for the Home Office Drugs Prevention Initiative as a consultant, and also as a research associate in health promotion for the University of Northumbria, before moving to London where he has worked for Kings College London, Royal Holloway, London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, Imperial College London and at the Maudsley Hospital where he was Health Services Research Coordinator for Addictions between 2004 - 2011. Most recently he was Research Tutor on the PsychD Clinical Psychology Training programme and an Academic Advisor on the MSc in Supervision & Consultation at the University of Surrey. His current academic interests include Alcohol IBA, physical health needs of IDUs, General Practitioner training in alcohol interventions, HBV immunisation and relationships between drug misuse and sexual health / risk taking. His PhD thesis explored brief interventions for alcohol misuse, and his book based on that and related studies is available here.
