The National Addiction Centre in collaboration with colleagues from the University of Bristol and funded by the Department of Health conducted a review of the changing use of prescribed benzodiazepines and z-drugs and of over-the-counter codeine-containing products in England. This review of published evidence and analysis of available data informed consideration of the extent of dependence and harm.
