Our Imaging Analysis Research Group is led by Professor Mick Brammer.
There is a very strong image analysis presence in the department.
The Institute of Psychiatry was one of the first few centres in the world to obtain fMRI capability and, since that time, there has been a continuing strong emphasis on development and application of analysis techniques in all areas of magnetic resonance imaging , as well as other modalities such as EEG.
We currently have expertise in analysis of structural imaging data incuding data registration, region of interest analysis, and voxel level analysis using both univariate and multivariate ( machine learning) approaches.
In fMRI, we use blood oxygen-dependent (BOLD) imaging as well as more recently developed methods such as arterial spin labelling (ASL) and have expertise in parametric and non-parametric univariate model driven analysis ( SPM, FSL, XBAM) as well as data-driven approaches such as independent-component analysis (ICA) and machine learning based classification and regression approaches.
We are continuously innovating and developing novel approaches in all these areas as well as offering expertise in established methods. In addition to structural and function MRI, we have a strong presence in innovation and application in white matter mapping using diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and probabilistic tractography.
Finally, we have a strong and growing interest in development and application of methods for EEG analysis and simultaneous EEG/MRI analysis.
