Peter McGuffin final lecture



Professor Peter McGuffin, Professor of Psychiatric Genetics, gave his final lecture at the Institute of Psychiatry on Wednesday 23 October 2013 before retiring in December. 

The lecture, part of the MRC Social, Genetic & Developmental Psychiatry Centre (SGDP) seminar series focused on:

Biography:

Professor McGuffin is a clinical psychiatrist whose research background and training is in the genetics of common disorders and behaviours.  

He has been pivotal in the history of the MRC SGDP Centre and was its Director from 1998 to 2006 and again from 2010 to 2012.  Additionally he took on the challenging role of Dean of the Institute of Psychiatry between 2007 and 2010.  

Professor McGuffin also retired from his post as honorary consultant psychiatrist in the South London & Maudsley Trust’s Affective Disorders Service.  At the Institute he will continue to be part of the SGDP Centre as an Emeritus Professor.
