Managing the Archives
The Archives and Corporate Records Services form a department within King's College London's Directorate of Information Services and Systems. King's College London is a charity exempt from registration under Schedule 2 of the Charities Act. In addition:
- The College Council have recognised the Historical Manuscripts' Commission A Standard for Repositories (1998) as the benchmark for care and management, and the Archives Services have been recognised by statutory instrument as a place of deposit for public records, specifically those relating to King's College Hospital and Belgrave Hospital for Children.
- Storage meets, or is planned to meet, the British Standard for the preservation of archives (BS 5454)
- The International Council on Archives' standard, ISAD(G), has been adopted as the Archives Service's cataloguing standard and the National Council on Archives' Name Authority Rules and the UK modification of UNESCO’s Thesaurus: name and subject indexing (UKAT). A majority of staff are professionally trained archivists or hold relevant higher degrees
- In 2005, the Archives was awarded Designated Status by The Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA) for its outstanding collections in the field of military archives
Further information about the management of this Archive can be obtained from our published policies and procedures.
