NEWS

STATEMENT FROM THE CENTRE OF EUROPEAN LAW

In the EU referendum of 23 June 2016, the majority voted in favour of the United Kingdom leaving the European Union. The vote will have profound political, economic and legal implications in Europe and beyond. It is expected to trigger a process towards the withdrawal of the UK and the negotiation of a new relationship with the EU. The legal aspects arising are highly complex and span the fields of domestic, EU, and international law. It is not an exaggeration to say that ‘Brexit’ gives rise to the most intricate legal problems ever encountered in the history of European legal systems. In line with its tradition and the global outlook of King’s, the Centre of European Law, whose members have been very actively involved in the EU debate, will continue to be in the forefront of teaching and scholarly research in all areas of European law providing a focal point of global reach in legal and multi-disciplinary research and offering one of the most comprehensive programmes of study in European law.
