Profile

Berna is a MPhil/PhD student at the School of Law. She received her LLB degree from Ankara University Law School in 1998. From 1998 to 2002, she worked in the capital markets department of Pekin & Pekin law firm in Istanbul. In 2003, she completed her LLM at the Univesity of Pennsylvania Law School with a dissertation titled “Independent Regulatory Agencies in Financial Services from a Comparative Aspect: Example from the United States of America and Turkey ”. Upon receiving her degree, she worked at Zara Law Offices in New York for two years. After moving to London in May 2005, she set up Anatole Consulting Ltd., and advised e-commerce companies on legal matters. She began her research at King’s under the supervision of Prof. Perry Keller and Prof. Roger Brownsword in Fall 2008.

Research 

Berna’s research interests lie principally in the areas of regulation and regulatory theories. She has a particular interest in legal and regulatory issues relevant to e-commerce. Her doctoral research is a comparative study of the regulation of online gambling in the US and in the EU.
