The collection is mainly comprised of papers and books collected by Thompson Capper whilst Commandant of Staff College, Quetta, India, and includes notes on the Manchurian War (Russo-Japanese War, 1904-1905), events in British Somaliland and their consequences, 1913, and papers relating to the dismissal of Major Berkley Vincent from his post as a professor at the Staff College, 1910-1911. There are also papers relating to his command of 13 Infantry Bde, Irish Command, 1911-1914, notably official training instructions relating to artillery, and correspondence relating to infantry formations under artillery fire.
The papers of John Edward Capper are fewer, and mainly comprise his notes and a text of a lecture on military aeronautics, 1910-1913. Also included are copies of telegrams and memoranda relating to the operation by the British Grand Fleet to escort the German High Seas Fleet to Scapa Flow for internment, 1918.
The papers relating to the Capper Medal Collection give biographical information on several generations of the Capper family, including Thompson and John Edward, 1969.
