The majority of the papers were deposited in the Centre in 1967, by the family. Papers relating to the King's African Rifles, Northern Rhodesia Regiment and Rhodesia African Rifles were transferred from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. A proportion of the papers relating to the Army Cadet Force Association were deposited by the Association itself. The papers cover the period 1914-1965 and include papers on his service with the East Surrey Regt in Belgium and France, and with the British Army of the Rhine, 1914-1919; correspondence and diaries from his service in Iraq, with the Royal Signals, 1920-1921; field message book from his service in Nigeria, 1924; diary of earthquake from his service in Quetta, India, 1935; newspapers covering death of King George V, 1936; scrap albums from his service as Officer Commanding, Northern Rhodesia Regt, Lusaka, 1937-1940; operation reports from his service as Officer Commanding, 26 (East African) Infantry Brigade, East Africa and Abyssinia, 1940-1941; reports on Operation IRONCLAD, from his service as Officer Commanding 22 (East African) Infantry Brigade, Madagascar, 1942; accounts of operations from his service as Officer Commanding 28 (East African) Infantry Brigade and 11 (East African) Division, Burma and India, 1944-1946; official circulars, speeches and addresses from his service as General Officer Commanding East Africa, 1946-1948; speeches and lectures from his service as General Officer Commanding, Aldershot Command, 1948-1951; diary from his service as Representative on Military Staff Committee, United Nations, 1951-1953; correspondence from his service as Col Commandant of Northern Rhodesia Regiment, King's African Rifles and Kenya Regiment, 1952-1964; minutes of meetings and committee papers relating to his service as Chairman of the Army Cadet Force Association, 1956-1959; account of journey to Warsaw, Poland, from his service as the Secretary of the British Section of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, 1959; and maps from the Western Front, Iraq, India, Nigeria and Madagascar, from his service, 1914-1943. Arranged in sections according to chronology of military service. Papers deposited by the School of Oriental and African Studies and the Army Cadet Force Association, and maps, are grouped separately.
