EG1 Atomic Energy papers, 1948-1959
206 files/volumes
The UK Atomic Energy Project was set up under Air Ministry in 1940. In 1941 the administration of the Project passed to the Lord President of the Council and the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research before, in 1946, becoming the responsibility of the Ministry of Supply. In 1954 research and development and policy responsibilities were split between the UK Atomic Energy Authority and a succession of different offices and departments respectively.
In 1973 the Department of Energy inherited the files on atomic energy matters from its predecessor bodies.
The class contains papers on various aspects of atomic policy including export control, bills, international relations, and minutes and papers of the Atomic Energy Board (1952-1954).
