Visiting us
It is not essential to make an appointment to visit the Michael Howard Archives Reading Room (for consulting the College Archives, Liddell Hart Centre for Military Archives and the Liddell Hart Library) or Foyle Special Collections Library. However, to help you make the most of your visit, we recommend that you contact us to make an appointment at least one working day in advance, either by telephone, email, or in writing. By consulting our online catalogues and summary guides before your visit and giving us full details of the material you would like to see, we can have it ready for you on arrival. Please ensure you supply library classmarks or archival reference numbers. We are also happy to help readers search the catalogues.
Alternatively, material can be ordered in person in the reading rooms. The reading rooms are open all day, but no material can be retrieved after 16.45. In addition, please note that no retrievals take place between 13.00 and 14.00 in the Michael Howard Archives Reading Room.
King’s staff and students must present their College identification card. A small amount of material in the Foyle Special Collections Library is loanable and may be borrowed by any holder of a valid King’s library ticket. External users must present two forms of identification, one photographic and one proof of address.
All visitors to the Michael Howard Archives Reading Room must also fill in a Reader Registration form on their first visit. This can be downloaded from this page and sent or brought with you on your first visit, or one can be filled in upon arrival. All visitors to the Foyle Special Collections Library are required to sign the visitors’ book upon arrival.
