Reading lists

Library Services provides three complementary reading list services to support learning and teaching at King’s:

Acquisition

The acquisition service purchases print, multimedia and electronic resources, including books, sound recordings, films, scores, and other materials. Wherever possible, an e book version is acquired for every title as well as print. Records for all acquisitions are added to the Library Catalogue and print or multimedia items made available for loan or reference in the appropriate Campus library.

Request an acquisition

King's staff can submit whole reading lists for acquisition by sending an email to acquisitions@kcl.ac.uk. For individual items please use the online form. The following information should be included in the request:

Module details:

  • Title of module
  • Module code
  • Start date and academic year in which the module will run
  • Number of students expected
  • Module organiser
  • If you also require an online reading list (see below)

Item details:

  • Title and author
  • Publication year and edition
  • Publisher
  • Status, e.g. core / recommended /supplementary

We aim to order items within ten working days of receiving a request, and standard items take at least four weeks to arrive. Out of print items, audiovisual materials and publications from outside Europe and North America usually take longer. Please note, we acquire all titles through approved wholesale suppliers, and do not purchase directly from publishers or distributors such as Amazon or Alibris.

Online reading lists

The online reading list service provides direct links from references to ejournal articles, ebooks or the Library Catalogue for print and other material. When an online reading list is created all items are also checked for acquisition. Please see the online reading lists information page for further details

Please complete the digital course pack request form and send to dcp@kcl.ac.uk. Please note, if a reference is already available via the Library collection as an ebook or ejournal, we will provide a link rather than a scanned extract.
