Learning and teaching services

Library Services offers a portfolio of services to support learning and teaching activity across the College. We work closely with Schools and Departments on user requirements to ensure that our services are relevant and reflect learning and teaching needs and subject-specific considerations. We will continue to extend this outreach activity over 20010/11.

Learning and teaching support services include:

  • Contributing to the King’s e-Learning Service including supporting multimedia and e-content development and supporting the King’s Learning Institute in building an e-learning community for the College
  • Providing support and documentary evidence for the QAA Institutional Audit and other accreditation visits
  • Exploring innovative student computing and desktop developments and the impact of new technologies on improving the design of traditional library spaces
  • Collaborative working with teaching staff to ensure recommended reading is available in the correct numbers, with the appropriate loan stats and at the relevant campus
  • The roll out of a College-wide digital course packs service that will enable teaching staff to provide online access to core and in-demand teaching materials. The service will significantly enhance access to course content and form an important element of the e-learning service
  • Encouraging consistent and high quality referencing skills and citation standards. The Library Services user guide on citing references has been adopted across the College
  • Providing guidance and support on legal compliance issues including plagiarism awareness, detection and supporting the College’s online plagiarism detection tool TurnitinUK
  • Presentations, ongoing support for and collaboration with teaching staff and tutors to ensure that they are aware of the nature and extent of all Library services so that they can encourage students accordingly
  • Software support, including consultation regarding teaching and learning applications requirements for student PCs and via the remote global desktop.
