Inter-lending and inter-site services
NHS staff may make Inter-Library Loan (ILL) and inter-site requests.
You need to be a member of King's College London Libraries in order to request ILLs or inter-site services. Please see Joining the Library page.
Inter-site requests
This applies to items held at another King's College London Library site. Please see requesting print journal articles for information on requesting articles, and reserving for information on requesting books.
All users can now request articles from print journals at any library.
This service is now free of charge for NHS staff
ILL requests
This applies to items which are not available in King's libraries or online collection. These can also be requested via the Library catalogue (see further details below). Where possible, journal articles will be supplied electronically to your NHS or King's email address.
Charges:
• Journal article: no charge
• Book loan: no charge
Please note that from 1st January 2012 all inter-library loans are free of charge.
Making an ILL request
Click on Inter-library loan and login by entering your Library barcode and PIN
Click on Inter-library loan again. You will now be on the journal article request page. If the item you require is a book or thesis select the book form. Fill in as much detail as possible - the fields with an asterisk must be filled in
Use the calendar icon to specify your last date of interest, rather than typing in a date. However, if you have to type in the date (e.g. Mac users) then do so in the format dd/mm/yyyy
If you are requesting an article, click on the copyright acceptance box and click Submit. You should now see an ILL request confirmation and reference number.
Repeat the process to request more items or logout if finished.
ILL delivery times
Delivery times vary. Average times range as follows:
-
Journal articles: 1-3 working days
-
Book loans: 3-5 working days
Please note, some items may take significantly longer depending on the nature of the material and the location of the supplier.
Urgent Action Service
We can supply articles the same day, if ordered before 15.30. Please note this service costs approx. £30.
Translations
You may request a translation of a foreign language article. Please specify “translation required” in the Notes field when you submit your request. There is no extra charge for this, but please note that a translation is not always available. We will inform you if this turns out to be the case.
