Evaluating research
Library Services have played a lead role in supporting the revised mode of research assessment that is replacing the RAE, by building bibliometrics support and research evaluation capability for the new Research Excellence Framework (REF).
King's staff chaired the national REF Events Steering Group, supported by HEFCE, and has organised four national consultation events.
Library Services are heavily involved in the development of a Research Information System, providing expertise in:
-
citation databases - staff are members of national enhancement groups for both Web of Science and Scopus, and have worked as development partners with Thomson Reuters in developing new products, including InCites - the new bibliometrics tool.
-
advising on the importance of institutional addresses and liaising with the databases providers on unification of variant forms of affiliation name.
-
the use of bibliometrics where this is appropriate to the subject area - providing support to researchers in citation analysis
