About Denmark Hill Library transformation project
As part of King’s vision for Denmark Hill Campus, the Learning & Teaching Space Improvement Programme is embarking on an ambitious project to transform the campus’s library service. Supporting the clinical user community, incorporating King’s College London and King’s Health Partners (KHP) students and staff, the vision will enhance postgraduate workforce development and improve connectivity to affiliated Trust networks.
Currently:
-
there are two libraries duplicating activity with physical limitations that impede flexibility and dynamic service provision
-
both libraries are almost at capacity
-
the Institute of Psychiatry (IoP) historical collection is inaccessible and located in the basement of the Library
-
there is outdated décor and signage, inflexible furniture, poor lighting and inefficient use of space over three floors of the IoP
-
growth in students numbers at Denmark Hill Campus are expected and ensuring a quality experience is key
-
research initiatives, including the establishment of the Maurice Wohl Neuroscience Institute, offer extensive opportunities to review the Library Services research support portfolio.
The development will see:
-
improved access to learning and research resources: Library and IT services
-
dynamic and flexible study spaces that align with teaching and learning, research strategies
-
connectivity and technology-rich environments: more wireless access points, power sockets, laptop loan and mobile friendly
-
improved access to personal and quiet study space
-
bookable group study rooms for collaborative work
-
increased accessibility and improved disabled access.
In addition:
-
the IoP’s 20th Century historical collection will be showcased on the lower floor of the IoP library
-
there will be enhanced research support services
-
improved document delivery services, now available free of charge
-
improved student services – for the first time, a KCLSU presence will be at Denmark Hill campus
-
teaching rooms on the ground and first floors of the Weston Education Centre will be refurbished.
