Library transformation

Transforming the Institute of Psychiatry

The vision for the Institute of Psychiatry (IoP) connects the library to the new reception area and Educational hub. There will also be more visual connectivity between the café diner, learning spaces, student computing facilities, support services and other main teaching spaces.

The Library space will have a  core collection and historical book collection, providing convenient access to teaching materials and learning resources, including prescribed reading and in-demand text books. This will enable the provision of the maximum amount of space for users balanced with appropriate levels of access to print materials.

This will enable:

  • the expansion of individual study spaces – there will be an increase to 90 seats at the IoP
  • increased silent study space
  • more group study facilities with enhanced AV capability – three six-seat rooms are planned
  • enhanced student computing capability with campus desktop clusters distributed throughout the facility
  • improved self-service options for users
