Transformed WEC
The Weston Education Centre (WEC) Library has received positive feedback on the new study environment and social space provided by the coffee area. It is a multi-disciplinary library serving both an academic and NHS students and staff.
The Library supports the Schools of Medicine and Dentistry, as well as staff from King’s College Hospital (KCH) and SLAM NHS Trusts. It also houses information resources to support nursing and physiotherapy students who are on placement at King’s College Hospital. There is a great deal of movement of students between New Hunt’s House, Franklin-Wilkins Library, St Thomas’ and the WEC Library as the students move into their clinical years.
As with the newly modernised Franklin-Wilkins Library at Waterloo Campus, the WEC Library space has been zoned to reflect the student ‘journey’ through the library.
There is now:
-
a new, larger and more welcoming entrance located on the ground floor
-
visual links to the rest of the WEC
-
a new graduate study room
-
an improved organisation of library stock
-
modern, flexible furniture
-
refurbished student computing rooms
-
dual-use rooms in the library to enhance student access
-
a more relaxed approach to eating and drinking.
In parallel with modernising the WEC Library, the Learning & Teaching Space Improvement programme has refurbished the teaching rooms on the ground and first floor of the Weston Education Centre.
