Analytical, Environmental & Forensic Sciences

Our aim is to develop and improve forensic science methodologies and to explore and minimise the negative impact of the environment on human health.

Based at King’s Waterloo Campus, we bring together over 70 analytical, environmental, forensic and toxicology researchers.

King’s Forensics is home to three ISO/IEC 17025:2007 UKAS accredited laboratories. Our teams are at the forefront of anti-doping, forensic genetics and fingerprint and trace analysis. Research objectives span several forensic applications in analytical toxicology, genetics and wildlife, providing intelligence to support the criminal justice system.

The Genetic & Environmental Toxicology Section explores the impact of exposure to chemicals on humans and the wider environment, identifying links between experimental studies and real-world scenarios. We use diverse systems, including human tissue organoids and invertebrate models, to define the mode of action and predict the effects of harmful substances.
