The Guy’s & St Thomas’ Research Biobanks are embedded within King’s Health Partners Integrated Cancer Centre. The biobank resources are fundamental to our aim, as an Academic Health Science Centre, of bringing together our world-class research, teaching and clinical practice for the benefit of patients.
We have a well-established, tradition of biobanking with a long history of tissue and data use across the UK and Europe. We want to significantly enhance our resources to include different types of cancer. These are essential in understanding what causes cancer, which treatment options are likely to be effective and how to improve patient care in the years to come.
Our aim is to collect surplus tissue and blood sample from all patients who attend either Guy’s or St Thomas’ Hospitals and have a diagnosis or possible diagnosis of cancer.
The Guy’s & St Thomas’ Research Biobanks are licensed by the Human Tissue Authority (licence number 12121) and have NHS Research Ethics Committee approval to collect, store and provide samples to scientists for research into the causes and treatment of cancer
