POS workshop 2015 success

Posted on 09/03/2015

On the 5th and 6th of February, the Cicely Saunders Institute hosted their annual two-day workshop on Outcome measures in palliative care: Using the Palliative care Outcome Scale (POS) family of measures. The event attracted even more delegates across both days, selling out places with over 100 in attendance on each day. A national and international audience attended, with some attendees travelling from countries including Sweden, Italy and Singapore. The sessions ran incredibly well, with overwhelmingly positive responses given by those attending and particular praise given to the speakers. The first day, targeted towards clinicians in palliative care, heard from director of the Cicely Saunders Institute Professor Irene Higginson providing a background on how the POS was developed originally and has evolved into different versions of the years. As well as Reader and Consultant in Palliative Care, Dr Fliss Murtagh discussing current research projects, including OACC, currently working on implementing a suite of outcome measures into South East London services. The second day, targeted towards researchers in palliative care, heard from in addition to Professor Higginson and Dr Murtagh and a variety of staff members, fellow Reader in Palliative Care Dr Richard Harding, discuss his current work in Africa in developing outcome measures to drive better care for patients and families. For details about future workshops, please email Francesca Cooper for more information. To see the event feedback on social media please follow on Twitter using #POS2015.
