Study backs supervised heroin use for addicts

The findings of research on heroin use, the Randomised Injectable Opiate Treatment Trial (RIOTT) conducted by the National Addiction Centre, were published in the Lancet.
Professor John Strang of the Institute of Psychiatry, who led the study, said: "we have shown that treatment with supervised injectable heroin leads to significantly lower use of street heroin than does the supervised injectable methadone or optimised oral methadone". *Also in Reuters, BBC News
