About us

About us

The Department of Infectious Diseases undertakes a broad programme of research, teaching and training, with interests in the molecular pathogenesis of viral infections in humans and healthcare-associated infections.  Our research bridges strengths in laboratory-based investigations using molecular genetics, biochemistry, cell biology and structural biology, with rich clinical resources in microbiology, virology, sexually transmitted diseases and patient-based trials.

Underpinning these programmes is our juxtapositioning to the Peter Gorer Department of Immunobiology on the Guy’s campus. Together, these two Departments form the nucleus of the College’s Programme in Infection and Immunity (PII).
