Research groups
Today, our research spans many facets of contemporary virology and immunology. For instance, current projects address questions of virus replication and gene expression, molecular pathogenesis, adaptive and innate immunity, viral evolution, structural biology and the design of novel therapeutic strategies. At present, a significant amount of our research is devoted to HIV and AIDS, though this will diversify in the near future as the Department grows and develops.
The Department is also home to the recently established Infectious Diseases BioBank Director, Dr John Cason. This serves as a centralised specimen archiving and molecular analysis facility that assists researchers wishing to undertake cohort-based projects in areas such HIV/AIDS, HCV infection or MRSA.
