King's leads UK trial of retinal implant* Professor Tim Jackson, Division of Diabetes & Nutritional Sciences and Consultant Surgeon at King’s College Hospital, and colleagues from the Oxford Eye Hospital are pioneering a UK trial of a retinal implant for patients with retinitis pigmentosa, a degenerative eye condition that gets worse over time. March 2012 Division makes an impact at the 2012 Diabetes UK Conference
Members of the Division of Diabetes and Nutritional Sciences made an impact at the Diabetes UK 2012 Professional Conference, held earlier this month in Glasgow. The conference was attended by 2,000 diabetes researchers and health care professionals. King’s researchers won 2 of the 7 prizes awarded for outstanding work:

The prestigious 2013 Banting Memorial Award was awarded to Professor Stephanie Amiel, joint Head of the Division of Diabetes & Nutritional Sciences and co-lead of the DENOVaRS CAG.
February 2012 Zinc path key to cancer treatment
New research by Professor Christer Hogstrand, Diabetes and Nutritional Sciences Division, and his collaborators, has identified the switch which releases zinc into cells, which could be key to improving treatment for some types of aggressive breast cancer.
