About us
The Division of Genetics & Molecular Medicine aims to maintain internationally competitive research across the breadth of human genetics and skin sciences.
Research focuses on identifying genetic variations which contribute to common diseases and understanding the pathophysiology of genes and proteins involved; understanding epigenetic effects such as imprinting, and control of gene expression; and developing novel analytical methodologies to study interactions between genes.
The Division has three sections: the Department of Medical & Molecular Genetics, St John’s Institute of Dermatology and the Department of Twin Research & Genetic Epidemiology, which holds the largest and most detailed twin databases available worldwide.
Academic activities in the Division are structured around four major research themes:
The Division has close links with Guy's & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust through both the Dermatology & Genetics Clinics.
It is also a significant contributor to the mission of the recently awarded NIHR comprehensive Biomedical Research Centre, partnered with Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, including the housing of the BRC core Genomics facility and related Bioinformatics support.
