Sections of the Division
The Division of Genetics & Molecular Medicine is a research theme of the NIHR Comprehensive Biomedical Research Centre, including the housing of the BRC core Genomics facility and related Bioinformatics support.
The Division is comprised of three sections, each specialising in different areas of human genetics. The work of the three sections is further grouped into four research clusters.
Department of Medical & Molecular Genetics
Head: Professor Christopher Mathew
The interests of the Department of Medical & Molecular Genetics is focused on understanding the genetic basis of human disease. The Department is located in the Tower Wing, Guy's Hospital, London along with a clinical/ scientific interface with the adjacent NHS Genetics Centre in the Borough Wing. The Department also collaborates with researchers and clinicians from other specialties within Guy's, King's College and St Thomas' Hospitals.
Department of Twin Research & Genetic Epidemiology (incorporating TwinsUK)
Head: Professor Tim Spector
The Department of Twin Research & Genetic Epidemiology is located at St Thomas’ Hospital, London. The Department has a track record of research into the genetics of complex disease with a particular focus on age-related diseases.
The Department incorporates TwinsUK, a registry of approximately 12,000 twins from across the UK, featuring extensive data on a range of phenotypes from around 3,500 twin pairs that have attended the Unit over the last thirteen years.
St. John's Institute of Dermatology
