Areas of responsibility
The Fellow is part of a team that visits all sites, both in District General Hospitals and central Teaching Hospitals, where clinical attachments are made for the School of Medicine. The visits take place every 2 years and a report with Commendations and Recommendations is prepared. This is discussed with the School Quality Group and Undergraduate Dean, and actions ensured with Year Heads. The Fellow appraises the Sub Dean.
Liaison is maintained by attendance at the twice yearly DGH Meeting, and bi-monthly Medical education Committee.
Biography
Recently retired from being a Chest and General Physician at Kent & Canterbury Hospital Andrew has long been interested in medical education. Previously he was Clinical Tutor and Director of Medical Education at this hospital. More recently as Sub Dean for KCL School of Medicine and other medical schools’ undergraduates he supervised Phase 4 and 5 placements, and introduced three Phase 3 firms at this hospital, while also facilitating Phase 3 in the other District General Hospitals in East Kent.
As representative Sub Dean he attended the School Medical Education Committee. Andrew regularly examines at KCL OSCE and Royal Colleges of Physicians PACES.
Andrew has been awarded Honorary Senior Lecturer status by KCL.
