Rewards for teaching

Honorary Lecturer Titles

Many NHS staff contribute significantly to teaching, over and above their minimal contractual requirements. Teachers in King’s partner NHS Trusts who contribute more than 4 hours per week to teaching may be eligible for an Honorary Lecturer/Senior Lecturer title. Staff who are awarded honorary contracts for teaching are expected to contribute to 6 sessions per year to assessment (examining) and 4 for admissions (interviewing).

Application for Honorary Lecturer titles

The application form is available from the School of Medicine NHS Staff page.

Teaching Excellence Award

King’s annual Teaching Excellence Awards are an opportunity for all students to vote for their favourite teacher. A winner is selected from nominations by a panel elected by the Medical Education Committee. Winners are eligible to apply for the King’s College Teaching Fellowships worth £3,000. Successful applicants will be automatically considered for entry to the National Teaching Fellowship Scheme for Individual Awards.

Certificate of Achievement

Sub-Deans may award the Certificate of Achievement to any teachers who have contributed significantly to the provision of teaching within their hospital.
