Medical Ethics and Law
This programme provides students with the opportunity to acquire analytical skills in moral reasoning, and to discover how law impacts on the delivery of healthcare.
King’s places great emphasis on the practical application of theory, and what is learnt in the classroom will be tested in the workplace through a series of clinical placements. The programme consists of a series of four modules which link to clinical disciplines, and students are required to take all four modules.
In the first semester, students take Practical Medical Ethics and Practical Medical Law, followed by the practical clinical module in semester two. Students can choose from a wide range of clinical experiences including ward rounds, outpatients, team discussions, case conferences and the Research Ethics Committee. There are also group visits to various health related organisations.
Students may wish to focus on one particular aspect of healthcare, for example, the legal and ethical issues arising from mental healthcare. In the final semester, students complete a dissertation.
