Philosophy

The Intercalated BSc Philosophy programme aims to teach philosophy, rather than philosophy for doctors, by investigating the problems that form the core of the subject as it has developed in the Western tradition. To some extent, though, the problems are selected and presented in a way that will seem relevant and interesting to medical students in particular.

The programme will provide students with an understanding of some central issues in general metaphysics and epistemology, in particular issues concerning the ways in which the kind of objectivity possible in evaluative (especially ethical) thought resembles and differs from the kind of objectivity characteristic of the natural sciences.
