This workshop will be facilitated by Dr Ruth Wright - recent Head of the school of Social Work, Psychology and Public Health at the University of Salford. This workshop is designed to help new academics who have joined higher education from health and social care practice to develop some practical strategies to make the transition easier.
Outcomes for the day are:
- To understand some of the factors affecting transition into HE
- To learn some practical strategies for facilitating transition
- To develop some techniques for finding and using support
- To develop some skills in managing common difficulties
"the networking was great and it was reassuring that we all had experienced similar feelings when taking up our new posts"
"...it made me realise that my fears were not unfounded, and [I] gained reassurance how I could address these and develop. [I] found it useful to talk to others in the same situation."
The most useful part of the day was "Understanding the process of expert to novice and being able to relate this to personal experience. Also having this underpinned with theory was most beneficial and useful personally in relating to my experience and linking this with students experiences."
