Public showing of BBC’s 'Putin, Russia & the West': Norma Percy, Director of Brook Lapping and Executive Producer followed by a discussion Strand campus, Edmund J Safra 21/02/2012 (18.30-20.30) Discussants include: David Alter, producer director of the film, Paul Mitchell, the series director, Brian Lapping, Chairman and Executive Producer Brook Lapping, Professor Anatol Lieven, Department of War Studies. The programme deals with Bush's missile defence system and Putin's offer at Heliogdamn to develop a joint missile defence system with the US - whether this was a serious proposal - or a malicious plot. In 2009 Norma was awarded the Grierson Trust’s Trustee’s Award and, in 2010, the Royal Television Society's Judges' Award. Brian Lapping is a programme-maker and historian who started his career working as a journalist on The Guardian and The Financial Times.
Anatol Lieven worked as a British journalist, mainly in the former Soviet Union and South Asia. He writes a monthly column for the Financial Times. His recent book, Pakistan: A Hard Country was selected by the Daily Telegraph as one of the '2011 Books of Year.
