Emotion: Preceptives from Neuroscience, psychology and psychoanalysis, with Jorge Canestri (Italy), Jaak Panksepp (US), Mark Solms (South Africa), & Oliver Turnbull (UK).
You are invited to the second meeting of an interdisciplinary seminar series entitled From Cognitive Psychology and Neuroscience to the Couch: Is There a Common Language? The series is organised by Aikaterini Fotopoulou (King's College London) and Martin Conway (University of Leeds) with the active collaboration of the International Neuropsychoanalysis Society.
The meeting aims to promote the conceptual foundations of interdisciplinary dialogue between cognitive psychology, neuroscience and psychoanalysis and is open to researchers and clinicians from these and other related disciplines. Over two years, we will bring together distinguished researchers and scholars from these fields to discuss the conceptual underpinnings of terms and notions of mutual interest. Topics include 'Drive and Motivation', 'Unconscious Processes' and 'Memory and Cognition', with keynote lectures and short oral presentations in the form of a 'data blitz'. The ultimate, long-term goal is to generate a reliable and practical ‘glossary', in which correlates of key psychoanalytic terms will be located among cognitive and neuroscientific concepts and theories.
Abstracts from students and junior researchers/clinicians are particularly welcome, including work in progress and innovative ideas for interdisciplinary work and theory. Abstracts related to the topic of emotion are preferred but other topics are acceptable. In all cases, evidence of interdisciplinary content and scope is essential. Abstracts to be no longer than 300 words and submitted by 22 October to admin@neuropsa.org
Attendance is £15 (£10 for students and trainees) but you must book in advance.
Lunch and coffee will be provided. A limited number of bursaries for travel/accommodation are available as follows: up to £100 for UK students and junior researchers and up to £200 for non-UK students and junior researchers.
Places are limited. Register by 15 November to reserve your place.
