The School of Law at King’s College London and the Committee of the Sixth Annual International Graduate Legal Research Conference (IGLRC) are pleased to announce a public lecture by imminent legal scholar David Kennedy.

Professor Kennedy has written extensively on contemporary issues of global governance. Drawing on Critical Legal Studies, Professor Kennedy’s most acclaimed publications uncover some of the most dangerous upshots of international law, and question many of its, allegedly, benign elements. By challenging many of our most passionate convictions about the altruism of international human rights law and humanitarian activism, his work has put the spotlight on some of the most tragic human rights abuses internationally.

As the Manley O. Hudson Professor of Law and the Director of the Institute for Global Law and Policy at Harvard Law School, Professor Kennedy lectures broadly on topics related to international law, economic development, and politics and global governance.  He has been a visiting scholar at various international universities, including the School of Oriental and African Studies, the University of Paris II, and Australian National University.  His professional experience extends to providing consultancy work to the UN Commissioner for Refugees, Doctors without Borders, and the Thai Foreign Ministry and Thailand’s Truth for Reconciliation Council.

Professor Kennedy’s lecture will be held on the evening of April 19^th at 6:30pm.  He will be speaking on issues related to global governance and political economy. We hope you will all join us in welcoming Professor Kennedy to King’s College London.
