DNA Event: Rosalind Franklin

This April marks the fiftieth anniversary of the death of Rosalind Franklin, whose pioneering work at King’s was key to the discovery of the structure of DNA.  The photographic image, Photograph 51, that she captured in 1952 with Ray Gosling was the clearest ever of DNA and can lay claim to being the most important photograph ever taken.

King’s is hosting an event to celebrate Rosalind Franklin, whose pioneering work at King’s was key to the discovery of the structure of DNA. Professor Noreen Murray, Professor Ray Gosling and Professor Ellen Solomon will speak at the event.

  • Professor Noreen Murray FRS FRSE FKC is a molecular geneticist, and an alumna of King’s.

  • Professor Ray Gosling FKC worked with both Franklin and Wilkins as a PhD student at King’s. He and Franklin published their X-ray findings alongside Crick and Watson in ‘Nature’ in April 1953.

  • Professor Ellen Solomon FKC is Head of the Division of Medical & Molecular Genetics at King’s.

The event will start at 18.00 and there will be tea and coffee served in Chapters from 17.30 and a wine reception in Chapters to follow. 

The event is open to all - but please note admittance will be on a first come, first served basis.
