IDENTIFYING TYPE 2 DIABETES ASSOCIATED GENETIC VARIANTS BY GWAS AND SEQUENCING

Genome-wide association studies and follow-up genotyping have proven remarkably effective at identifying common variants associated with human diseases and traits.  Advances in sequencing technology are enabling a new wave of genetic association studies based on resequencing large numbers of individuals, allowing more detailed coverage of the genome, especially for less common variants.

In this talk, I will describe the current state of our type 2 diabetes GWAS and sequencing studies, and some of the design issues and analysis challenges and opportunities associated with these studies.
