Recovery: from research evidence to clinical practice and organisational transformation


Course Dates: June 25th – 29th 2012

This course describes research-based best practice in developing a focus on recovery in mental health services. The five days comprise one taught and four workshop days, covering empirical evidence, clinical practice and organisational transformation. It is designed for clinicians, managers, researchers and students with experience in the mental health system and who want to learn from international experts about approaches to supporting recovery.

Course Aims To support the development of a focus on recovery in mental health services.

Learning objectives

  • To be able to distinguish between personal recovery and clinical recovery
  • To understand the empirical evidence for personal recovery
  • To be aware of international best practice in supporting recovery
  • To explore how mental health workers can support recovery
  • To consider personal and professional values relating to recovery
  • To understand the role and contribution of peer support workers
  • To understand the ImROC approach to organisational transformation
Teaching methods

The course comprises a mixture of lectures (Day 1) and workshops (Days 2 to 5).
