King's alumnus to anchor US TV news show

The British journalist Martin Bashir has been named as a new co-host of one of America's most prestigious news shows starting next month.

Best known for his candid interviews with Princess Diana and Michael Jackson, Mr Bashir is an alumnus of King's.

He will be one of three presenters taking over from Ted Koppel, on the ABC show, Nightline - the closest thing on American network television to Newsnight. Mr Koppel, one of the last icons of excellence in broadcast journalism in the US, is retiring after 25 years.
