Innovations in Education: Summer Fayre
14 Jul 2003, PR 48/03The Dental Institute’s first Educational Summer Fayre, Innovations in Education, takes place in a marquee at King’s College London’s Guy's Campus on Wednesday 16 July, 11.00 -16.00.
Professor Diana Laurillard, Head of the e-learning Strategy Unit at the DFES will make the keynote speech on the Government's new White Paper "Towards a Unified e-Learning Strategy" at 13.30.
Technical and educational exhibitors will present their latest ideas and technologies together with key King’s College London areas of innovation including KCL Enterprises and Departments across the College.
Presentations of new mobile technology by the BBC, the launch of KaVo’s HealOzone (a trauma free treatment for tooth cavities) and video conferencing are among the day’s highlights.
Dr Pat Reynolds, the GKT Dental Institute’s Deputy Director for Education (distance learning) and event organiser says: ‘King’s College London is about to take a giant leap from being a world renowned first class traditional College into a cutting edge third millennial centre of global teaching excellence embracing a new e-learning strategy.
‘I wanted to raise the awareness of the exciting new dimensions in teaching and learning that these new educational innovations can bring to both the lecturer and student in higher education and continuing professional development.’
The event will be opened by Hew Mathewson, the new President of the General Dental Council at 13.00.

Diana Laurillard
Diana Laurillard is Head of the e-Learning Strategy Unit at the Department for Education and Skills, on secondment from The Open University (September 2002 to August 2005). The Unit has been established to develop and keep under review a coherent overall government strategy in the area of e-Learning and to develop strategic relationships with key external partners in the public and private sector.
King's College London
