Biography
Nishanth Sastry received a Bachelor's degree (with distinction) from R.V. College of Engineering, Bangalore University in 1999, a Master's degree from University of Texas, Austin in 2001, and a PhD from the University of Cambridge in 2011, all in Computer Science. During 2007-08, he was a visiting student at the Advanced Network Architecture Group at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Prior to that, he was at IBM for five years, first in the Software Group and then at IBM Research. He also worked at Cisco Systems for a year. His honours include a Best Undergraduate Project Award, a Best Paper Award from the Computer Society of India, a Yunus Innovation Challenge Award at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology IDEAS Competition, a Benefactor's Scholarship from St. John's College, Cambridge, a Cambridge Philosophical Society Research Studentship, a Cisco Achievement Program Award and several awards for his work at IBM. His work has ranged over several layers of the network stack and he is currently involved in building better networked systems by harnessing social network information.
