Embedding Athena Swan principles at the heart of our Faculty
The Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing & Midwifery has a long tradition of promoting good practices that reflect the key principles underpinning the Athena SWAN Charter.
The value of supporting women’s careers in an academic arena is a particularly powerful message for the Faculty as, unlike many other STEMM disciplines, nursing and midwifery are predominately female professions and this is reflected in the composition of the Faculty’s staff and student community. Working to Athena SWAN standards and guidance has both provided, and continues to provide the Faculty with opportunities to recognise and celebrate our achievements as well as identify issues requiring further action.
King's has been a member of the Athena SWAN Charter since 2007 and gained its Bronze institutional award in 2008. The university's Bronze award was renewed in September 2013 for a further three years. Colleagues across King's are proactively working towards an institutional Silver award by November 2016.
