Research programme
The National Nursing Research Unit’s current research concentrates on the effectiveness of the healthcare workforce and covers three key themes:
-
Care quality and outcomes
-
Organisations, physical environment and ways of working
-
Nursing and health care workforce
Our core research programme is funded through the Policy Research Programme (PRP) contract (from October 2007-2012). Two major research studies funded through PRP are currently underway:
-
work to support the Health Visitor Implementation plan
-
research into the effective management of diabetes in primary care
Previous NNRU research has included studies on working lives and education of nurses, user perspectives and innovative nursing roles. These studies have enabled us to grow expertise in the theory and application of patient-centred and nursing-sensitive outcome measures.
We have also undertaken a series of reviews to support our key ‘policy customer’, the Chief Nursing Officer and her team.
