JMCE Research Student Workshop 2011

'The European Union: Finding its Role in a Changing World'

Friday 30th September 2011

Workshop
The Treaty of Lisbon emphasises the need for a coherent EU foreign policy that upholds and promotes its values and interests in its relations with the wider world.

However, the EU’s identity as an international actor, as well as its ability to adequately respond to international challenges and to shape the international order, remains very much work in progress. This is illustrated by its response to recent events such as the Copenhagen climate summit and the Arab uprisings.

This one-day workshop aims to explore the role of the EU in the international order and the influence of international developments on the EU itself.
